A number of the world's most luxurious engagement rings are made from platinum, it has emerged.
According to a report from ABC News, eight of the baubles on its World's Priciest Engagement Rings list were manufactured using the precious white metal.
Included on the list is an "internally flawless" 5.98 carat oval-cut diamond ring from the Elizabeth Collection at Los Angeles-based House of Taylor Jewellery.
The jewellers, which boasts Hollywood icon Elizabeth Taylor among its shareholders, has valued the ring at £0.65 million.
Also on the list is De Beers' yellow diamond radiant cut ring on a platinum band, available for £200,000.
The unusual colour gem is similar to those used in engagement rings purchased by actors Charlie Sheen and Eddie Murphy.
The £262,500 Secret Kiss of the Rose ring, also from De Beers, features rose-cut white diamonds and a 0.8 carat pink diamond in the centre.
Other precious items on the list include offerings from opulent jewellers such as Cartier and Tiffany's.
Meanwhile, Harry Winston was recently voted the most prestigious jewellery brand in a survey conducted by the Luxury Institute.
Plaudits heaped on the jeweller included being known for its "quality and exclusivity" and being "the ultimate" provider of diamond pieces.
