Platinum has been highlighted as the possible "next big thing" in the jewellery world by the Los Angeles Times, which suggested it was replacing yellow gold in peoples' affections.
Citing the precious white metal's durability as one of its best qualities, the newspaper claimed that it is "beloved for ring settings".
It also joked that platinum, which has recently been seen adorning the likes of Madonna, Christina Applegate and Anna Friel, has "snob appeal"- emphasising its luxurious status.
Meanwhile, another publication has described platinum as being "hot on the trinkets circuit"- particularly regarding jewellery for men.
The Declan Herald added that it is "perfect" for sorority rings and wedding bands as its gives them a "sleek" and "classy" appearance.
The newspaper also emphasised that when selecting jewellery men should tread with caution and "avoid overkill".
"What you wear must complement your physique," it continued.
