The platinum market is being boosted by the rising number of weddings - with more brides choosing to adorn their ring finger with the precious white metal.
A study conducted by the Conde Nast Bridal Group study showed that spending on bridal jewellery has increased by more than 60 per cent in recent years, with more than 80 per cent of consumers desiring platinum for their engagement or wedding ring.
This view was echoed by the results of an Allure magazine survey which revealed that platinum has the highest commitment of any of the metals for both engagement rings and wedding bands.
A recent article by the International Diamond Exchange attributed this growing preference for platinum wedding rings to today's generation being more likely to wed and also to their wealthier status which means that they demand a higher quality from their jewellery.
It was recently reported that a number of A-list celebrities don platinum engagement and wedding rings including Katherine Heigl, star of 27 Dresses, and Desperate Housewives actress Eva Longoria.
