An engagement ring - whether it be platinum, diamond or gold - is more expensive than the cost of a wedding band, according to a news report.
The average spend on an engagement band ranges from ?3,000 (£2,365) to an estimated ?10,000 while the price will rise depending on the size, style, colour and clarity of the stone, said the article in the Sunday Business Post Online.
Matthew Ryan of Matthew Stephens jewelers, told the news provider: "A one carat diamond set in a simple platinum band would cost about 7,000 euros."
However, prices for a simple, narrow, plain gold band could start from about ?220 and rise to about ?1,000 dependent on the style of ring and what extras are included - whether it the band is made out of gold or platinum.
Mr Ryan added that wearing a platinum wedding ring and one of 18-carat gold would lead to the latter wearing faster, according to the Post Online.
San Diego News reported that a couple may lose a wedding ring after they gave it to a struggling jeweler to repair.
