Hollywood star Jennifer Lopez has led a popularity surge for colored diamonds, it has been claimed.Sean Gilbertson, of mining group Gemfields Resources, believes the "J-Lo effect" has pushed coloured stones above white jewels in terms of demand, reports the Daily Telegraph.
Jerry Ehrenwald, chief executive officer of the International Gemological Institute, agrees with this opinion.
He told Delawareonline: "Demand [for coloured diamonds] has grown in the last decade as a result of Hollywood."
Mr Gilbertson's comments shortly after his company signed a deal with renowned jewelry range Faberge.
The agreement will see Gemfield Resources link up with Faberge, which is most famous for its jewel encrusted eggs, in producing a new luxury jewelry line.
Next year will see the release of the first batch of products created by the pair, with a 99-year licensing option available, the Daily Telegraph reports.
The arrangement will include the product several gemstones, but not diamonds, the newspaper adds.
