A highlight of the Bonhams December 11th simulcast auction was a collection of three platinum watches by luxury designer Ulysses Nardin, according news-antique.com.
The very fine and rare astronomical timepieces are made from platinum and consist of the Astrolabium Galileo Galilei, the Planetarium Copernicus and the Tellurium Johannes Kepler.
Featuring a distinctive sun hand, the Galileo Galilei indicates solar hour, sunrise, sunset, dusk, month and zodiac sign, while another hand shows the phases of the moon.
The Tellurium Johannes Kepler watch has a rotating enameled dial to depict the northern hemisphere with a flexible spring dividing night and day.
Meanwhile, the Planetarium Copernicus features a dial of six black steel rings with an outer ring calibrated for monthly and annual zodiac rotations.
The three-watch set was presented with a fitted Ulysse Nardin/Scatola del Tempo winding box, tool kit, certificates, swing tags and instruction books.
Meanwhile, a Patek Philippe Ref 5004R platinum watch fetched $660,000 at Antiquorum auction last week and was hailed as the highlight of the sale by jckonline.com.
