The results of the Platinum Guild International's (PGI's) Platinum Design Awards 2009 have been announced at Baselworld, the world's largest watch and jewellery exhibition.
Split into three categories, the awards celebrated talent in the fields of platinum bridal jewellery, nature-inspired platinum design and platinum jewellery for men.
Winners of the first category were announced as Italian designers Picchiotto at the ceremony in Switzerland for its solitaire engagement ring with white, yellow and brown diamonds set in platinum.
Other winners included Japanese bran Kuwayama for a spider web-inspired platinum necklace and German company Hans D Krieger for a sword-shaped platinum pendant with white diamonds.
James Courage, chief executive officer of PGI, said: "We have been delighted with the creativity and quality of the winning pieces and, indeed, all the pieces entered into our Platinum Design Award categories at Basel in this our first year."
